Hi Tony

I've repaired one.

Had a new one fited under warranty

Dealer fixed it in november 2010

Today it's like yours.

These locks are a disgrace to the caravan industry. The sooner they are redesigned once and for all the better.

My Dealer will be fitting another new one. I'll let you know how that goes.

In the meantime a lot of us wrote how to fix them. If Parksy or you can't find the earlier threads let us know.

Cheers

I knew that I'd saved it somewhere! This is a tip to repair the Hartal door lock.

' ...remove red and green screw covers and cover with HARTAL writen on it, remove the 4 screws , then you will need to turn the handle assy upside down (on a worktop or bench is best) then remove the circlip and double spring clip , the handle now comes out of the locating apperture , simply file or sand the hole to make biger then reverse the removal procedure , a smear of petroleum jelly wont go a miss either...'

With acknowledgements and thanks to 'Tech Steve' from another forum

Hello Parksey. I found the door lock to be stiff and did exactly as you described as I could see little point in changing it for more of the same. It now works exactly as it should do, so thanks!

Just a big thankyou to those that posted the repair procedure for these useless bl***y locks.

My Eldiss Odyssey 544 is less than a year old and yet the lock has been an absolute nightmare to use and i had a very real fear of the key snapping when attemting either a lock/unlock.

Followed the repair instructions and 30 minutes later it is as free as a bird . I could see no point in having it replaced under warranty as judging by the number of complaints it seems to be a minor design or production fault and a new one would be exactly the same in no time.

Great advice as per usual.

Cheers Darryl
