Hi Deli Dave

I cannot help you with your route but I can help you with the question about the docks. We camped on the docks itself overnight with great success. The attendant will direct you to the fence at the side of the waiting area and we stayed there overnight. It is reasonably quiet as the lorries board from another part of the docks. This is the same area from which boarding takes place so you are in the right area and can see what is going on. We would definitely do it again as it was so stressless. I don't think you will have a problem no matter what time of the night you arrive as there is only the one sailing time - about 11.30 p.m. before the morning boat, so people just turned up at all hours. Enjoy your trip. We are going to the C & CC Rally in Sarlat in May so it would be good to hear of your trip when you get back.

Hi Dave personally I would consider Northampton--A45 to A14--M11 come off by Stansted Airport--A120 to Colchester--A12 towards Ipswich (for about 10 mins)-- follow signs for Harwich straight into dock.

Bear in mind that boat leaving at 11pm will start loading around 10pm. There is a big waiting area at Harwich.
