Have I misused the Gas for 38 years???????

I was talking to a retired electrician / gas engineer today also qualified in LPG.
He says when changing the gas cylinder or working on a gas item it is imperative to close the gas cylinder valve,
the bulkhead mounted master gas valve,
and the individual equipment isolation valves.
He says to do anything else will result in air getting into the gas pipes creating a highly combustible mixture which could result in an explosion 🙁
In all my caravanning years I have only turned off the cylinder valve when swapping for a new one.
Have I been a fool all these years :dry: 🤔 :woohoo:

We always turn off both the bulkhead valve and the cylinder valve. 😉

Edit - the appliances would be off in any case.

I don't recall ever having turned anything off. Just swap the bottle over I'm afraid and I'm still just about alive if not kicking. 😗 😗

Both you and me then, in over forty years I've only turned the cylinder off, I and my vans have all ways stayed in one piece. :woohoo:

Yes, real problem.

Three new caravans purchased today ( 1 day) and they have all blown up ( forgot to turn off gas at bottle).

No recompense from anyone, my fault, I accept it, getting a bit sore on the pocket though.

Now I have to undergo the expense of almost a gallon of fuel to pick up another new caravan tomorrow.

I specified 'no gas', peat fired only, here's hoping for a carefree van.

IMO.......turning off the supply at the cylinder deals with 99% of the risks involved.

I've even tried changing a bottle having forgotten to shut the valve, it's amazing how much gas there is in a theoretically empty bottle!

I have n ever heard of the problem and surely there would have been numerous explosions if it were correct. Our first two caravans did not have isolation valves and only the last one has had a cut off valve mounted by the regulator. I do shut the cut off valve and the cylinder regulator when traveling but have never shut the isolation valves which appear to have been open when I collected three of the four caravans fitted with them, however I am sure they were closed when we took delivery of an Eldiss.
