Hi Parksy

The name and shame debate / forum rule has been done to death loads of times. I seem to recall we took an unconfirmed, unsupported view that if for instance I named this thread "Raven Holidays -Naff" even a wally like me would know who we were talking about. Thus no one is incriminated nor is your life as a Mod made difficult. I suspect this is why the Cockneys invented rhyming slang so as not to NAME and shame?? LOL.

Now what did PC stand for??

Cheers

Alan

In answer to the post made by David who takes issue with the rules of the forum

For a start it's not MY magazine, I don't work for them.

I have no contact with advertisers and so fail to see how I would be in any position to express complaints and grievances, genuine or not, to these companies.

Neither am I in any position to 'moan' at any company.

If you were paying attention you'll observe that I haven't altered the original post in any way, I simply asked the original poster to have a look at forum etiquette so I'm sorry if in your opinion this constitutes a 'big brother mod' approach.

'The customer is ALWAYS right' you say, well maybe the customer should take his complaint up with the company concerned.

By joining this forum our 'customers' agree to abide by the rules of the forum.

The rules of this forum clearly state the position as far as naming companies on the forum is concerned.

Some posters have indeed been positive and I am not here to judge the validity of posts. The positive ones don't compromise forum etiquette.

Nobody was ever sued for praising a service.

For those who wish to completely disregard forum rules and etiquette by naming companies in a way that is potentially litigious when find a caravan internet forum where this is allowed I would respectfully suggest that you use it.
You might not work for the mag, but as a MOD of the forum on the mag website, you must have some contact with them. So although you might not be able to contact the ad men, you will know a man that can....as the saying goes.

Big Brother bit.....you seem more worried about legal action than honest opinions....and for the avoidance of doubt...there is no court in the land that can say your or anyones opinion is wrong....they might not agree, but the cannot say it is wrong.

The second last paragraph.....last line.....so if we post a negative comment we / the mag will get sued...is that what you are saying.....

Mmmm....I am amember of 14 forums and they all allow negative feedback in posts.....if the posts are Racist, Sexist, etc etc, they are deleted and correctly so.....but if they are opinion based they are left alone..

If Paul had posted something like....

"Thankyou very much Haven Holidays but you are miserably less than I expected. Your publicity is a factually incorrect in my opinion".....

would that have been OK.

Different words....same message.......

As I said......"To moan at the poster of a topic and not to do so to the company is, IMO, disgraceful"

Cheers......

David

I suggest that you post your negative feedback on one of the fourteen forums that you're a member of then.

To moan at a forum moderator because you won't accept the rules of the forum is IMO disgraceful.

I still can't believe that this is running on. You've been lucky enough to be accepted as a member of this forum, but want a say in how it's run ?! Arrogance, as far as I can see.

If you want to make the rules, start up your own forum.

If you're not happy, vote with your feet.

I wonder what would happen if you were removed from the forum, I reckon no-one would ever know. ( that's not a suggestion Parksy, :wink)

Hi Paul

I have been going to Lakeland site for 15 years and this year i have to say the site has gone down hill, there are some excellent Haven sites it just knowing which ones to go to, and, if you go out of season they are good value for money. Have a look at the UK campsite reviews for Lakeland and it says it all?? Haven seem to look after the owners exclusive and treat the tourers as second class citizens but still want our money!! There are some really nice Haven sites its just knowing which ones to go to?

RULE 4

You may not transmit complaints about named companies or caravan parks. Such individual issues should be taken up with the company direct.

Sorry Parksy, but why not.

Your mag is about giving advice and assistance to caravanners.

Or is it a case of "as long as our advertising revenue is not compromised"..

The magazine and this forum are popular because of the members and people who buy the mag. The advertisers buy the space because of that, not the other way round......as they say the customer is ALWAYS right.......

Instead of giving negative posters a "slap on the wrist", perhaps you should point out to the companies / advertisers, in this case Haven, that there are people with genuine concerns / complaints.

To moan at the poster of a topic and not to do so to the company is, IMO, disgraceful.

The original post was a valid one......and did not deserve the "big brother mod" approach.

Some posters have been positive......are their comments more worthy ???.....cos they don't bad mouth a magazine sponsor.
i have a question for paul.with regards to rule 4 how far do you as a moderator take this..do you edit a posting berating for instance the build quality of a waste hog or does it come down to who pays the most in advertising over the year.if you edit a posting for someone putting forward their justifiable displeasure about haven holidays surely you should trawl through the entire froum and do the same for every other posting that questions any product in a negative light. What you will end up with is a false forum that does not do what it is intended to do and that is to help and inform newcomers like myself.

rant over

Dan the caravan channel recommended wild duck in one of there programmes last year it looked more like a traditional caravan park the touring area does have a woodland look about it it looked quite nice considering it was a haven site wouldn't go personally as I only use sites that have fully serviced pitches i'm on holiday I ain't fetching water

Yes Dan, we've been to Wild Duck - all depends the sort of person you are. If you are a fat beer swilling baldie who borrows a mate's old van and somebody else's ill fitting awning just to sit in whilst huddled around a portable gas fire disturbing neighbours till all hours, who chucks their kids out with their bikes from dawn till dusk and bellows from one side of the park to the other you'll love it. If you like to be squashed together under a load of trees with the tree roots prohibiting any sort of pegging you'll be fine. If you like to stand up all night in the "clubhouse" in the pitch black as its impossible to ever find a seat you're going to the right place. Oh, and if it rains you'll probably be delighted when your groundsheet is heaving with mud where it is so badly drained. The term rough house is coming to mind...

i've got to agree with valerie, pretty much a spot on account of haven camps countrywide.

i've been to craig tara, seton sands, golden sands, blue dolphin, lakeland , and marton mere. all are the same.

even in the driest if times the pitches always seem to like swamps.

OH :-(

We liked the look of this site as it had a kids club and evening entertainment (that way we also get a bit of a break as someone else can look after the kids for an hour or so each day)

I like a beer as much as the next bloke but TBH as a self employed builder I like to have a rest when I go away and am usually tucked up by 10pm cause i'm knackered!!!

Ah well, last easter we were in the sleet, hail and mud of conwy, the year before that, skeg-vegas.

Boy, we know how to pick em!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, were just back from Wild Duck and we enjoyed our week there.

The entertainment staff quickly learnt our childrens names and were all very proffesional.

The park was tidy (considering how busy it was due to easter week) and the toilet/shower blocks were cleaned regulally.

Overall, a very well run team.

Wild horses would not drag me back to a Haven site no matter how cheap. I was woken about 11:30pm looked out of the window to see a 10-20 youths urinating into the touring field from the static site. The toilet block was about 15 yards away.

Awoke next morning wandered across to toilets to find every door had been kicked in resulting in a broken lock plus for good measure every loo had been stuffed with toilet roll and flushed till they flooded. A few days later the rain came and our pitch was under 6 inches of water. I spoke to a regular who said that he was surprised they put us there as it aways floods.

This was the Presthaven(hell) Sands site btw.
