Head Room

Hi, we're looking to buy a new caravan, spending up to about 11.5k. There are 5 of us, 2 adults and 3 young kids. We've never caravanned before, so are complete novices.

My biggest concern is the head room in the caravans. My husband is 6 foot 6 inches tall. Will he fit comforatbly in all caravans?

The only ones we've looked at so far are the LMC which we were quite impressed with. He had no problems standing in them, but looking at the Bailey and avondale catalogues, the head room there seems to be quite a bit lower at 6 ft 3.

Any advice or ideas?? Does anyone have any experience of LMC, or can you recommend anything else?

Hi lucy,we know what you mean.We had the same problem.We now have a Hobby caravan,also German like the L.M.C they seem to make much supperior caravans.Ours is 5/6 berth fridge,microwave ect all mod cons..and doesnt fall to bits like some of the british made caravans.Our Brand new was 12k from Ambergate caravans Derbyshire.We travalled from scotland to get it!Look up Hobby caravans on the web,you can look at all the diffrent layouts.We have a 540uk(the largest towable van)good luck

My husband and I are also new to caravanning and are currently looking for a caravan. John is 6 foot 3 inches and the caravan we are considering after viewing quite a few (Swift Group's Sterling Eccles Sapphire) allowed him to stand up with room to spare. It also seemed quite spacious generally.

The cost is a bit more than you wanted to spend but perhaps the headroom will be similar across the Sterling or inded Swift range. Hope this helps and good luck!

my hymer has very good headroom, so you're probably going down the right avenue by looking at continental vans.

Try an A series Adria loads of space, headroom and a simple durable build .Suits kids and adults alike.

we have had an lmc for the last 3 years they knock spots of the british vans which are rubbish

I would be more concerned about bed length. I am tall myself , and have not too much difficulty standing in van (even with head bowed) for short periods of time, but sleeping with knees round ears for 8 hours is different. Look at bed sizes

Thanks for all your replies.We took Lauras advice and looked at the Sterlings. We were very impressed and are going to look at them again in the Three Counties Show. We like the Eccles Amethyst, and also the Europa 500 and 540, but need to decide whether we want the fixed bunks or more living space.

Anyone got any opinions? We've got 3 kids aged 9,7,5, and intend using the caravan locally most weekends, (we live in south wales near some beautiful beaches), but also intend some long treks through Europe in the Summer.

Hi Lucy, although we're not very tall (5'11'') we've just bought a Caravelair Eden - french 'van full of extras, much cheaper than equivalent Brits, and lots of headroom - try one!

hi all.

Just wondering if anyone out there knows anything about this model of caravan and whether it is towable or not. We are new to the world of caravanning & want to buy this van privately & site it in wales but need to know if its legal to tow. If anyone has other info about these vans would be most grateful also.
