Have been camping for a year or two but as i near 40 it dawned on me that a caravan would be more comfortable so we went and bought an immaculate 1994 elddis hurricane xl last week.

everything works as it should so will find a site at the weekend for a day or so to get used to the van. we intend to use it all winter as well as the warmer months. really looking forward to proper hot water and heating.
regards Annie

Hi Annie. Welcome to caravanning and the forum. Sorry it has taken a while for you to get a welcome. The "welcomers-in-chief" are mostly us Woosies (have a look in Chit Chat) and we have all been away for our annual get together. Tent camping is OK but now you have a van you will wonder why you didn't swap before.

Let us know how your maiden trip goes.

Hello Annie, welcome to the forum and apologies for the lateness of my reply, I've been away with the Woosie Club too.

Congratulations on buying your Elddiss and I hope that by now you've had the chance to enjoy using the caravan.
As hardy ex-campers I should imagine that you know about some of the lovely caravan sites, the clubs, and how best to stay nice and warm but if there's anything that you're not sure about please don't hesitate to ask.
I've upgraded your membership status so that you won't need to complete the word affirmation box now, if you want to alter your username to Annie (or anything else) please contact me via my link if you need help.

thanks for the warm welcome.
i am looking at putting the van on the bognor caravan club site this week for a few days to aquaint myself with all the workings.
really looking forward to staying in the caravan as so much warmer than the tent and it means we can use it in the winter aswell which is near impossible with a tent as they wont hold any heat for more than 5mins.

I'm not sure if your caravan is stored at home or if Bognor CC site is near home Annie, but it might be worth while plugging in the ehu (electric hook up) in beforehand to ensure that everything works, especially the heater in the colder weather. I should imagine that your Elddiss is fitted with either a Carver or a Truma heater and there are some experts who use this forum who will be able to help if you are stuck.
You will need a lpg bottle, preferably Propane (red bottle) for the heater.

Hi Annie
A belated welcome from me to this excellent forum.

I too progressed from tents to caravans and have never looked back.

The World is your Oyster. So much to see and do including absolutely nothing other than total relaxation.
Over the years a number of like minded people, The Woosies, meet annually and have lots of fun.
It is uncanny that people from all over the country get on so well.

Never be afraid to ask questions on this forum. There will be someone who can answer you.

bognor cc site is only 10 miles away. i checked out the heating hw etc and all is working as it should.
just wanted to use it for a night as we are hoping to use it at half term to see relatives in leicestershire.
the cc site is very good value this time of year as i intend to go on my own and leave hubby with the boys, 13,16 and 18 so can look after themselves mostly. really looking forward to a night away on my own.

Hi Annie
Just a thought as you will be using the Elddis soon. Do you know when it was last serviced?
If more than a year ago I'd get a professional service carried out . Apart from the obvious ie running gear the engineer will also check all the electric and gas fittings for safety.

Enjoy your trip.

the last service was 20months ago so will look into a service for the gas.
a nieghbour friend mechanic has serviced the running gear and my brother has been through the electrics as hes a domestic electrician and he also used a meter thing on the gas lines to check for leaks etc

Welcome to the Forum Annie. Loads of good advice on here, like other people have said just post your queries and comments in the relevant forum sections and someone will be sure to come back with good ideas. I've followed forum advice for my annual holidays for a year or two now and the recommended sites have been spot on. Enjoy your new caravan.
