Kum Bai Ya?????................ Nooooo!!!!!!
Forum responses to almost anything invariably reflect and highlight the polarity of opinion that has become prevalent since internet use became widespread.
Television programmes always highlight out of the ordinary things that may pique the interest of viewers, and the elevation of the original programme to a prime time series means that you obviously struck the right note.
The touring caravan community could generally be said to consist of responsible owners who take care to obey the laws with regard to towing and who respect the area that they are staying in, be it a kiss me quick commercial beachside holiday park or a remote and quiet five van certified site, and others who take little or no trouble to learn about or to respect speed limits, weight restrictions etc; and who are noisy and untidy wherever they stay.
Most of us are somewhere in the middle although I like to think that forum users, by virtue of their membership, at least take care to learn about caravanning and it's do's and dont's via internet forums.
Caravanners are quite often demonised on mainstream media with sweeping allegations of creating traffic hold ups and causing road traffic accidents, when the facts prove this not to be the case.
News/ chat programmes such as the BBC radio 2 Jeremy Vine programme perpetuated the myths when they recently engaged a vehemently uptight 'celebrity' opponent of caravanners who spouted pure unadulterated rubbish, which was more than ably countered by TV's Martin Roberts who proved what a reasonable friendly and relaxed group of people we really are.
I hope that along with the potential nude kite flyers, gourmet caravan chefs, car key exchangers and Kum Bai Ya screecher's (who won't see the programme anyway because tv is considered to 'be not proper camping' which is regarded as a form of self-inflicted punishment) you can show the more positive family aspects of our hobby which injects some £6 billion every year into the British economy.
