Am new to the forums but have already posted on the 'buying guide' board without even saying hello (how rude of me! ) So, Hello. We don't have an 'outfit' yet - Andy and I but will be looking for a suitable large tourer at the end of this summer. We have our eye on a nice site on a working farm close not too far from both our work places. Kids have flown the nest so it's just us and a little old dog. Spent many happy years in static vans on holidays and camping when kids were small but we now want a lifestyle change.
As we are new to the world of touring caravans you might find me posting a few questions before we buy. The forums have been a great source of advice already. Thanks Nicky & Andy

Welcome to the Forum Nicky & Andy. We're a bunch of harmless people really and will answer any questions asked.

PS If the kids have flown the nest why are you looking for a large van - that may only encourage them to come back?

We did the same, camped when the kids were young and bought a 2 berth van when they no longer came with us.

Hi. We are looking for a larger van as it will be our 'permanent' home. Want a fixed bed so they seem to be the larger vans

thanks Nicky

Welcome to the forum

We upgraded to a fixed bed caravan with an island bed (very easy to make, as you can access both sides) and have never looked back. No more hauling cushions around last thing at night - just climb into bed - bliss! No having to climb over the other sleeping person if you have to get up in the night, as the person on the inside of an offset bed has to do! All things to be considered when buying your van.

Hi Nicky & Andy, welcome to the Practical Caravan forum, although we 'met' in the caravan buyers guide earlier
smiley-laughing.gif

There are lots of good well looked after touring caravans offered for sale, especially from those thinking of upgrading to a newer model around this time of year and also at the end of the 'season' so take your time to find a good honest model with service history and no major faults.
Damp is the biggest killer of caravans so in the meantime have a browse through the Caravan Buyers Guide (click on the blue text) for information on the main points to look out for.
Ask as many questions as you want to, the friendly forumites will always do their best to help.
