Hello everybody,
At the moment I have no caravan.20 years ago I had a lovely French caravan- a Gruau. It was a lovely comfortable van and I traded it in for a motorhome. There were a few reasons why I did this.
I used to struggle getting it onto my driveway.
Although the van was of good quality in general the taps were forever shorting unless handled extremely delicately- this probably bothered me more than anything.
I was always nervous when it came to onsite manoeuvring especially when I'd unhitched but decided it needed a little tweeking.
Now a few tents atrailer tent and 2 campervans later I'd like to have another try but I have this vision of being like some of the real professionals I've seen on sites. Also I'd like to become confident enough to use it alone.

Hello Mook
Welcome to the Practical Caravan forum.

Generally speaking caravan build quality has improved somewhat ( I know that some may disagree with me) and electrical circuitry has improved with it. The tricky manoeuvring issue is easily resolved by fitting a motor mover to your caravan if your driveway is awkward to reverse onto.
Practice makes perfect of course but we all had to start somewhere, and to give you confidence and the best possible start, towing courses are readily available from both the Caravan Club and the Camping and Caravanning Club.
Our forum members will be glad to offer advice and tips and I'm sure that you are not alone in finding things a bit daunting at first.

Hi Mook

Welcome to the Forum. There's plenty of good advice available on here so don't be afraid to ask.
Caravanning alone can be most enjoyable. Certainly on most of the Caravan Club sites I've been on people are generally very friendly and only too willing to offer help with awnings etc.
I agree with Parksy the mover is a great help in positioning the caravan on site.
There are also Groups whose members are all solo caravanners who help each other but not in an intrusive way.
Good luck.

Hi Mook, welcome to the forum. We used to have a motorhome and then changed to a caravan, various reasons that mean't a van suited us better. Never regretted it. You don't have to be an expert on here. 6 years of vanning and we still can't reverse. Also technically useless. Take the plunge; you'll be glad you did

Hi Mook, big welcome to the forum good luck on your search for the van
You could always take the van to an empty car park and practice your reversing as said we were all beginners at one time.

Anyone with a tricky space to get a caravan into will never regret getting a motor mover. We wouldn't be without ours and wish we had got one years ago. No pushing and pulling the caravan again and once you arrive on site, after unhitching, placing the caravan exactly in the position you want is a doddle. You can also take the caravan to the car when hitching up, making it effortless.
Hope it's not long before you gat your caravan!
