Hi,

I'm new to caravanning this year. I'm married to Chris and we have 3 children ages 13, 11 and 8. We have a 1995 Elddis Cyclone which we are towing with a 2.3i (petrol) Galaxy. So far so good, but we've only really tried it out properly this past weekend. I've been reading some of the posts on this forum and was sorry to read about Lolly's problems with her Galaxy. I hope ours holds up a bit better.

We've previously had a folding camper, so not entirely new to campsites, but it is lovely having central heating and hot water on tap!

Hi Alice

Welcome to the mad world of caravans.

We have only been vanning since last Nov, but already love it.

Hope your Galaxy lasts longer than mine!, I would imagine a Petrol model is a tadge bit expensive for towing?

Lolly x

Hi Lolly

Yes, the petrol version is more expensive for towing, but we've had this car from new (2000) and before we started towing anything. On our 380 mile round trip last weekend we were getting about 18mpg. We're positive we will replace with a diesel when the time comes, just don't know what make/model

Hi Alice,

We have a Similar car to yours in the form of a VW Sharan (2000 ) model TDI and touch wood we haven't had any real issues at all in fact I or rather the wife as it's hers thinks it's a great car; we done 110, 000 miles in it and get 25 mpg when towing which is about average for any towcar it seems.

Despite Lolly's protestations there a pretty reliable towcar, and I think that a number of others on the forum with the SEAT version would agree.

Like you when I come to replace it I don't know what with but that's another story

Kindest regards
