Just got my car back from the bumper being done.. to fill you in someone hit the
back of me, so their insurance rang me saying they would repair and supply a courtesy car.

Car they provided, Repair well... I took it to my garage who said a new bumper..

The repairs company which is every where in the counrty I think as it's N*********
phoned said they HAD ASSESSED THE DAMAGE and would repair the car.

the bumper would be resprayed .........I asked did you assess my car? "yes" said the man............what about the damage to the wheel arch ? I said. What ripple said the assessor !!!! what part of the bumper? where about on the wheel arch??

I DON'T KNOW, YOU HAVE MY CAR THERE WITH YOU!

So my next question What about the damage done to the polystyrene packers between car and bumper ( i know this as hubby had a look and told me.) He then said he would call me back in a few minutes... by this time I was cheesed off, hubby rang, and then landline rang, so both phones were on loud speakers..

Assessor says the ripple was on the plastic part of bumper and they can get that out , and just respray.. What about the packing he then says

We won't know was damaged has been done until we take off the bumper and get the car up, then if anything else needs doing we will do it..

As the others insurance is paying, ot's not the money but I expect that when someones says THEY HAVE ASSESSED THE DAMAGE that's what they mean. Cheap skate I think! It's not my insurance comapny wouldn't go with them even though they have changed their name.

So what should I do obviously I have to ring them because they didn't replace any of the polystyrene packing at all not one piece..oh boy
more time waiting for them to collect car and then courtesy car again...... Any thoughts or advice you may have would be appreciated..

thanks

I'm sorry if this answer is a bit blunt, but:-
You are not obliged to accept the first offer an insurance company makes, for repair. But equally don't hold out for an unrealistic outcome.

You are not obliged to have the repairs done at the location suggested by an insurance company, in theory you can nominate and properly registered repair agent.

Even though you say the offenders insurance company rang you to arrange to repair the vehicle, your insurance company is involved, and all work should be arranged through them.

The work carried out under an insurance repair must be of merchantable quality as with any contract. If the works are not what you agreed or were led to expect then reject it, but the difference is that your contract is with the insurers and not the repairers, so if you are not happy you must refer it back to your insurers.

Ultimately if you are still not satisfied, then you must first follow all the stags of the insurance companies complaints procedures, and then if still not satisfied, the insurance ombudsman and trading standards.

A few years ago, when our car was broken into the same N****** quoted to our insurance company £600 to repair a broken window, a damaged indicator stalk and reaplce a radio on a 1985 Volvo 340. My excess was £200. I took the car away and was quoted by Volvo about £200 all for the job with the exception of the radio which would cost another £120 (It wasn't a Volvo radio) . Cheaper than N****
Consequently I visited a scrappies, bought a second hand window for £35, replaced the window, repaired the indicator stalk myself and fitted a new radio. Total cost under £100! If insurance companies are referring people to N***** , no wonder how premiums are so high!
