hi Ann.
welcome to the forum, it is difficult question to answer if you don't have an Abbey, (which I dont) but I will try and point you in the right direction as the forum is unusually quite at the moment.
it depends on the fittings in the light, and whether it is 12v or mains,
although usually the wall fittings are mains of which there are 2 types uplighters and downlighters.
by enlarge downlighters use a similar fitting to a domestic wall light and either have a removeable ring that one unscrews after taking out the bulb, or a grub screw that releases the top cover and then the shade just slides out.
uplighters can also have a ring that is unscrewed after the bulb is removed or in the case of a bailey (like mine) the shade is removed by unscrewing the little knob at the base of the fitting (where the pull cord goes through) this releases the btm cover and the shade will slide out.
hopefully your shades will be of one of this type otherwise you may have wait until a abbey owner replies.
hope this helps
