Hello all, Hope you can give us some good sites and places of interest for our holiday next year. It will be our first time to take the caravan over to Britain, there are so many sites and places of beauty that we just do not know where to go, We our looking so far at either Scotland, the Lake District or the New Forest, so as you can see from one end of the country to the other we are so confused please help recommend a site that would suit 3 families with children ranging from 2 to 20 and 6 adults who want a bit of peace and quiet.

Also I have been pricing the ferry and it is from £500 to £800 this seems quite expensive any advise on best time to book ferry to get cheaper price.

Hope you can help us because we just can not decide what to do this is why we have started to look now.

Hi Jennifer,

You don`t say where you`re coming from or when, but if not you`re a member of the Caravan Club it may be worth while having a look on their website at their sites which have good descriptions, pictures and recommendations for families, quiet sites etc.

They also do good deals on ferries which can save more than the membership fee.

If nothing else it may help you to narrow down which areas you may wish to visit.

Hi Angus, we can travel from Belfast or Dublin we live in the middle so both ports are the same distance away. We are members of the c&cc, we have looked through the 2008 booked of sites but alot of the nice ones don't seem to have toilet/shower facilities which we would need as some members of our party are camping. We are looking to travel in July and a site with a pool or beach nearby would be a bonus. We can't seem to narrow down the area we want as we have never been to any of these places before and just don't know which would be best, any ideas would be a help.

Hi Emmy, how have you been. Yes i think we will have to go to the show because there is no way we will pay the prices they are charging on the net. Do you have to know your dates or are the tickets open ended. Who is it at the show we should look out for?

O.K. Jennifer, that narrows it down a bit.

We absolutely love the CC site at Freshwater East in South Wales, which is just across the road from a superb beach, has really good toilet blocks, and a nice tent area close to the showers. Its also right on the Pembroke coastal path.

Can you still get caravans on the Pembroke - Rosslare ferry? If so you`ve only about 10 miles on this side.

Gotta go, but I shall return with other suggestions!

Hi jennifer. You have to book the ferry at the show to get the discounted price so I would go with a good idea of when you want to travel. We booked with Norfolkline who were offering free caravans and also half price return car and passengers, so as i said it worked out at a saving of about

If you go on www.carryoncamping.org, there is a chap there LB who has done reviews with pics of many sites. There is a site near Oban, which we also stayed on, which he reviews. Whilst it is very good there is another site at Fort William - a CC one that looked good when we travelled that way. We did not stay there but it was on the edge of a Loch.

Hope this helps.

Jennifer,

The two Club sites at Oban & Fort William mentioned by Alex, won't be any good for you as you have stated that as a group you have tents & caravans. These 2 sites do not do tents.

Caravan Club site at Drummore /

New England Bay ( a short drive from Stranraer ).Adjacent to a very safe sandy beach )

Caravans are grouped amongst gorse bushes and tents are right on the front.Excellent facilities as usual and a games room on site.

This is right at the Mull of Galloway, and on a good day you can see Ireland !!!

Dumfries & Galloway is very uncommercialised and therefore great for a quiet holiday.

NON-MEMBERS welcome to this site.

I notice that you are C&CC members.Have you thought about Keswick in the Lakes?

You are within a few minutes walk of the town and if you want a rest from driving.....all the buses are available to explore the district.

It's a very busy site so early booking is always recommended.

Jennifer,

I think I'll become a travel agent !!!

Another website for you to look at is

www.bob.org.uk

These are all 5* sites and going to Holyhead would then give you a choice of Home Farm on Anglesey

or The Plassey at Wrexham.

Both take vans & tents.

Now I must go and do some work!!!

Thank you for that Maureen. Only goes to show that we males can only do one thing at a time. In fact, can't sustain attention above about 1 sentence.

Never mind gave my typing an outing.

Hi Tony i looked up that ferry company they are now called Norfolk line, I cant get any quotes for the dates we are looking to travel on but we will go to the show in January and hopefully get the ferry booked then.

There are so many great sites it is just so hard to choose but think we have narrowed it down to Cumbria or Scotland area.

Thank you all for you help we'll let you know where we do decide to go but if you have any more ideas for these areas please let us know.

Many regards
