Help - TV/VCR problem

I have just got a Wharfedale 19' HD ready digital LCD TV/DVD combi which is great but I am trying to connect it to a Panasonic VCR.It will play back but not record,what am I doing wrong.

The ariel is connected to the TV and the VCR/TV connected by a scart lead.
 
Not an expert by any means, but you'll probably find that you need to have the external aerial (from the roof) going INTO the VCR,(not directly into the TV), and then back OUT of the VCR to the TV. There should be two sockets on the back of the VCR for aerial IN and OUT.

If you get stuck, then use this site which has an interactive setup guide. Simply put your info into it, and it will tell you exactly what to connect to what.
