the fridge in our van appears to be getting an electricity and gas supply it will also run off the car battery, however it has an intermittent fault and at times does not keep the stuff in the fridge cold. The small freezer section works. My husband has tried to look at it without success, does anyone have any ideas it seems so strange that it is intermittent. The fridge is a wheel arch model and we have been quoted £500 to by new this doesn't seem worth it as the van is a 1992. please help

Jane, you say the small freezer section works, is this all the time, on either of the supplies?

If yes, then the fridge is working correctly as it is only the freezer part which cools the rest of the fridge and you should be looking at the seals around the door, as this is the most likely cause of loss of coldness.

It might depend on the actual model of fridge but working on 12v and in the freezer all the time I think is the clue.

The actual cooler unit then must be working and 12v and maybe the gas is not thermostatically controlled, this leaves the 240v Thermostat as the most likely fault with mains operation.

Gas may or may not have a thermostat, (I think not), and it's unlikely for both thermostat's to be faulty anyway, so a burner fault is the most likely problem with that side.

Thanks for quick replies just waiting for husband to get home from work to read them and see if we can solve the problem.
