Hi

we're booked into a CL on tuesday for a few nights, its all posh, we've got a hard standing pitch!!

Trouble is I've no idea what to do on one. Do you put the caravan as far to the offside as you can so you only walk on the grass to connect the water etc? but then the awning is on the hard too, is it OK to put pegs through the gravel or whatever it's made of?

Or do you put the caravan all the way to the near side so the awning goes on the grass? whats the point though as you still have to trample grass / wet into the awning!

I'm confused!

Hi Gareth. We only ever stay on hardstanding pitches and put both caravan and awning on the hardstanding. The hardstanding pitches are usually gravel and my awning is pegged down with rock pegs.

The grass in-between pitches usually acts as a spacer between units, therefore if you move caravan over and erect awning on grass you may be too close to next unit.

My advice is buy a load of rock pegs and a good mallet. The pegs knock in faily easy and pull out with a couple of twists.

Good Luck, Dan.

Hi Gareth

as advised you will need rock pegs , most caravan supply shops will have them. I paid about 25p per peg last year so not too expensive.

Also get a good quality mallet as it will need some extra oomph to knock them in.

I also use a hard standing and with the right kit its never a problem.

Thanks guys, i've got rock pegs from a trip to the new forest when we had a pitch made from compacted fine gravel. horrid stuff in the wet weather!!

i'll put a ball-pane hammer in too!

I take it hard stands are normally pretty flat & suffer less from one wheel or steady sinking in after a day or so?

We normally stay on farm CLs where the grass is normally 3 inches high [at least] & you move the caravan back and forth before you un hitch to find the levelest bit!

Hi Gareth

As well as rock pegs you can also use screwpegs,8". We have used them for a number of years now . We hammer them in and use the cordless drill and adaptor to screw them out of the ground.

Cheers
