help what is this port for???

hi all i have a 1988ish elddis whirlwind deluxe, on the outside near the front door is a small hole covered with a rubber cap which says britax or brifax on it when you lift it up ,inside is what i can only describe as something that looks like one half of a fuse holder from a plug?? i thought it was a gas outlet for a bbq etc but after buying the recommended attachment to fit said hole it doesnt fit and the more i look at it the less it looks like anything to do with gas, any and all ideas /answers welcome.

many thanks Mick

I tend to agree at being a 12v plug but if I am right it is not the standard cigarette lighter type but has a sort of point on the end,if so possibly difficult to get these days however if stuck let me know via the Mod because I think I have one somewhere that you are welcome to have,
