Hi! I recently bought a Bailey Senator 6 Arizona. It’s in amazing condition but the paintwork is looking quite dull. I don’t plan on touring with the caravan, I bought it so I could have family visit and I am wondering if I was to repaint it, what paint could I use?
My first thought was to establish what the caravan is actually made of which is proving difficult. I’m assuming it’s Aluminium and possibly UPVC? If anyone has any advice on this I would really appreciate it.

Can’t help but respond how difficult it would be to get a decent finish on the exterior of a van! Have you tried a quality caravan shampoo and then a quality polish? I have used Care-a-van or Mer at various times with good results - especially earlier this season when I had been pitched partly beneath a tree! Assuming the van is painted aluminium take care as the paint is only microns thick!

I was once told, many years ago, (and I do not know if this is true), that car paints are no good. Household oil based Glos is better.

As above, spend the money having it cleaned and polished, DIY painting a caravan won’t turn out well. The different materials will require careful preparation, many exterior bits & piece’s removing or masking, epoxy primer, top coat etc. errant flies and dust will add to the problem.

I would not even consider repainting a caravan as very difficult to get a shone up again. This outfit comes highly recommended for restoring caravans to their former glory. See https://www.tourershine.co.uk/caravan-motorhome-exterior-detailing-services/restoration-service/
It all depends on your skills, as with everything else, In the end if you can spray paint in perfect conditions, then you get a good outcome, but the cost to rent a shed big enough to take a caravan , the spray equipment etc. It will be cheaper to get a professional company to do it.
Having resprayed several Helicopters, in Nigeria, picking off the bugs as the paint cures, is a long task.
