Hello all, I am need of some advise or direction I have had a TOM TOM 1XL bought for me last year but unfortunatly it does not seem to have a program/download for plotting a route with a caravan,I do still refer to the good old map book but that still does not tell me the road widths.

So if any of you experenced caravaners know of a web site or somthing and would be willing to share it I would be most gratefull.

Kindest Regards

Mike

Hi Michael,

Go to the internet and download a small programme called 'TYRE' - its free. This programme links to Google maps and you chose the route you want to take to your destination by entering waypoints. A good tip is to chose the Satellite view and find i.e. a caravan site and click on the site entrance as your destination. I often use Sat view for looking for off-road laybys to have a break. The file can then be saved as a Tom Tom Itenery file. Connect your Tom Tom to your computer and Tyre will transfer it to your Sat Nav as an itenery file which will allow you to drive the route you have decided.

Hi Michael.

First of all I will start by saying that no matter how good a sat nav is, you should always keep a map in the car (just in case the batteries fail). Also don't allow your map reading skills to fall by the wayside either.

On the vehicle set up menu on your sat nav, you can set it to truck/bus. Thinking logically here, a car and caravan is roughly the size of a truck/bus, so the roads chosen for them should be adequate for you.

I have selected avoidance of toll roads, single track roads and also set my tom tom up for bus/truck. This has worked fine so far.

The tom tom web site has neumerous downloads available so have a look and a fiddle and you should be fine.
