Hello all!

Now that i'm a real caravanner with a new caravan as of last week, thought i should join in with the experts for some tips as we are going off soon to NorthWales in August! :)

The only thing im worried about is the food aspect - i mean, how long can yuou survice on beans?!! I'm sure theres gotta be better meals, what else is popular?

I have to admit though, looking forward to a break!:D

Welcome, MM39!

As you've got a 'newish' van, then presumably it's got a hob and grill, and possibly an oven, and almost certainly a fridge. So what's to stop you cooking exactly the same meals as you do at home? And if you don't want to do actual real cooking whilst on hols (who does? I certainly didn't! lol), then why not cook double the quantity of, say, cottage pie, curry, lasagne, etc. at home, freeze the extra, and take that with you to have in the van? Or buy chilled/frozen ready meals. Or take a barbecue - loads of caravanners do!

Hi MM39, welcome to the forum and congratulations on buying your Swift.

Soozeeg is an excellent cook although she says that she doesn't want to do any cooking her husband lives like a king.

You should have no problem in preparing meals in your Challenger given the equipment levels and you can make them as simple or elaborate as you like.

If I'm not mistaken Challengers even have a microwave, we use ours for quick meals now and again.

There is a regular monthly Caravan Cookbook feature in Practical Caravan magazine by Hilary Harris, she provides some tempting recipes or as Sue mentioned there is always the BBQ.

*Blush* Thank you, Steve (you're thinking about that next dinner I promised you, aren't you ;o) lol).

I've just read this out to my Steve, who says he's going to have words with you the next time he sees you, for spreading untrue rumours!

MM, while we're on the subject of cooking in the van....don't forget to get hold of some saucepans, etc. I wouldn't bother with the lightweight camping style ones, they won't last 5 minutes and will burn easily, a couple of 'normal' ones should do just fine for starters. If you don't want to spend loads of time washing up oven dishes, you could use the sturdy tin foil dishes which are available to buy in most supermarkets.

Hope this helps.
