We have not Caravaned since the late 70's when we had a 1600 Cavalier and a Baily Mikado CT.
We are hoping to get back into things as soon as we have finished doing the house up and selling it.
We quite fancy either a Skoda Octavia/Superb 2Ltr diesel Estate/Kombi or a Mazda 6 Estate 2Ltr Diesel.
Very much open minded re Caravan choice but will be 2 berth only.
It will all have to be three or four years old unless we win the Lottery.
Back then there was an increadible variation in the standards of sites. The quality of these and Caravans in general
seem to have improved significantly but at extra cost, and weight for the 'vans.
So, we look forward to meeting up in a years time aprox.
In the mean time I will be asking for all sorts of info here.
I will start by requesting the winning numbers for the next Lottery.
Rgds.

Welcome back to caravanning. You will notice the differences in vans since the 70s. ;) If you only want a 2 berth then a 2 ltr tow car could be an overkill.

Hi Woodlands Camper, thanks for your reply.
I know a 2Ltr would be "generous" but the 2 berth stipulation may be budged up to give more space even if we do not need the extra beds. I simply like bigger more powerfull cars too. Pity about the extra running costs.
And while we are talking about tyres I have noticed that some of the tyre sizes used on some of the most popular tow cars are very much more expensive than others that are only slightly different.
Sorry for going on and getting more than a bit off topic.
Rgds
Re 70's 'vans, there were some that could be described as lacking, particularly with regard to chassis design. My old Baily had to be very carefully braced with the steadies or the door would not close. Very whippy chassis and a horrendously heavy nose weight!

hi Wilbury, welcome to the forum, thats about the time we started 1971 with a 10ft Ace Airstream 4 berth, towed by the trusty 1.6 Cortina, if you remember those days :woohoo: you are in for a treat looking around modern vans, pity the weight has gone up so much, but there are a few lightweights still around, look at the Venus range .
