High cost of holidays

I am just reading Sept issue and see Anthony moaning about £110 a weeklast bank holiday, well Anthony Bank hols will go up but remember a static for that time will cost you 3600 plus so I recon 3110 for the week wasnt bad

This is exactely the point i have raised on a number of occasions, the cost of caravanning has gone through the roof these past few years.

Like J&P states you can do it cheaper but if like us you want a newish van with a warranty for peace of mind then the costs soon mount up.

Last year our total outlay for the van including 65 nights away plus the depreciation, insurance, servicing,spares, extra for the bigger car, servicing for the bigger car, extra fuel for the bigger car, extra insurance for the bigger car and more road tax for the bigger car plus ferries to france came to a total of

I haven't worked out the costs regarding caravanning, I enjoy it so thats the main thing. When I bought a cruiser on the Mon & Brec canal the mooring cruising licence was about

Lord B. we had a great time thank you - weather was good for the full time we were there during the days but it didn't half rain late evenings and during the nights.

I totally agree with your comments regarding the pleasure side of life and caravanning. If we were to stop and evaluate every course of action we took we might just as well sit at home like miserly hermits. There are no pockets in shrouds and as we have worked for years why not enjoy ourselves at retirement and to hell with the money. Regarding a boat on a canal my neighbours have returned from a week on the Brecon and Abergaveny canal and they said it was the most relaxing break they have ever had. It is something I have always fancied but the wife is unsure of it.

I agree with the above comments by Lord B and Colin regarding the costs of caravanning. For us its the lifestyle which attracts us not any perceived cost advantages but the posting was specifically about cost and I believe that quoting cheap site fees can be misleading.

Just to set the record staight, our "cheap old van" was an impulse buy to get us back into vanning after several years break and to see if it is still what we want. By next year we will both be "retired" and although I am happy with our little 2 berth SHMBO has grand plans for replacing both van and car so I am rehearsing my arguments about cost and value etc (it will be a total waste of time but I have to try)!
