Davey,
Stayed there in July 2008, and yes the reviews you are reading are quite correct regarding the wind, to get to the touring area you have to pass through the static part but once on the touring part it is quite a nice site. If I were you I would select a pitch as far back from the cliff/coast edge as possible although this may obstruct your sea views some what.
We did the complete opposite and got as close to sea as possible,
lovely views but at 05.00 hours the awning decided to take flying lessons and believe me its no fun on your own trying to rescue every thing!!!
The most embarrassing thing were the empty beer cans rolling down the road trying to catch up with them, without being spotted by anyone.
I'm not trying to put you of because partly to my inexperience at the time I did'nt have a storm strap (I have now and use it even in calmer weathers) and the weather if you can remember was particulary bad back then.
One last thing lovely walks along coast paths and fields down to a small beach side town area (cant remember the name of it sorry)
Actually returned on Tuesday from the Poole area and every thing was fine.
Hope this helps and I'm sure you'll be ok in August, enjoy.
