Hi all, I just wanted to share my good news. After seeing consultant a few days ago I have today got a date for my new hip 22nd Feb!!It will be such a relief to get about again. Apparently the poorly leg is about three quatres of an inch shorter than t"other one.No wonder I limp!I am a bit nervous too mind.HIMSELF will not be able to escape once I am mobile again. If my body moves as fast as my mouth I would be able to win the Derby! I have needed this operation for over 2 years but was not able to because of a series of family crises.Fingers crossed it will happen this time!!

That's great news - t'other 1/2 had hers done 13 years ago when only 42 - gave her a complete new lease of life. Went from having to borrow a wheel chair when we went to the Metro Centre to walking 5 miles in Yosemite 4 months later !!

You'll only face 3 minor drawbacks - you'll need to give up bunjee jumping, water skiing & parachuting !!!

Don't worry about about having a fast mouth, you've got a natural excuse TC, you're a female :O)

Good luck with your hip.

Now goes and sits in the corner before I get hit upside the head :O(

Generations apart and what it means

Hip op - Getting older and entering our twilight years

Not to be confused with

Hip Hop - nauseating music listened to by those in their nightlife years

They really should tho shouldn't they it would be good for long stay patients to keep in touch with family and friends? It would also save having to dig escape tunnels if they wont let you out!!!HIMSELF will think he has gone deaf when I am absent from home!!! Make the most of it "I"LL BE BACK"

thursday, dae you realise that havin that leg a wee bit shorter than the other has its advatages ?,

one which springs to mind is that it would make it easier for you to lean over the cooker all day when tending to the family, just turn side on and you will be able to reach the pots easier :)

awra best mrs :)

Thursdays Child,

To follow on from Highlanders muse, its also great having 1 leg shorter than the other when you want to climb a mountain.............all you have to remember is if the left legs shorter then climb in an anti clockwise direction & if its the right one climb in a clockwise direction....failure to follow these simple directions will see you tumbling down the mountain side!!!

BTW, good luck with the Hip, Hip horay! & if its a metal one rather than a ceramic one....watch out through the airport metal detectors!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's all very well having a short leg when climbing a mountain but on the flat you will travel in ever decreasing circles and eventually disappear up your own ----!

On a serious note all the best TC

Thank you all so much for your good wishes and helpful suggestions. The only "downside" will not being able to do my"I CLAUDIUS" impersonation!!! I remember HIMSELF telling our children, when they were young, that the sheep on the mountains had 2 legs shorter on one side so they didn't fall over!!!

Highlander,my pet Haggis wont eat his neeps and tatties,do you think he is pining for something?

Don,t get too excited about you,re op or new lease of life. I had my right hip replaced last june and have been having trouble with my recovery. Was refered to physio and have now been told my right leg (new hip side) is an inch and a half longer than my left which is putting strain on my back. Seem to be back to square one, not very happy. I,ve had packers put in my left shoe and now their talking about raising my heals.

Sorry to put a dampener on things but recommend you give you,re surgeon a tape measure to make sure he gets it right

OMG!!!!!Dave how appalling!!!What does your surgeon say about this dreadful outcome? Fear of this very situation was the reason I refused a "fast track" operation in a private clinic via the NHS.It was a very hole in the wall affair and I was not comfortable with the consultant or nursing staff. The consultant I have chosen is well known to me because he operated on HIMSELF and I asked for him specially.

I really do hope that your problems are resolved quickly once and for all.Keep your fingers crossed or me too!You just never know do you!!!On a lighter note if they do make a similar mistake I shall insist on having the other leg lengthened to match. That way at least I might be the right weight for my height at last!!!!You have to have a laugh or it would really depress you.

My thoughts are with you.

Good luck with you,re op mate i think mine was just a bit of a horror story. The op itself is nothing to worry about had mine done on a thursday night out by sunday morning. Just this recovery gone a bit ski wif.

thursday, ma wee lass.

please dont get too involved with what can be posted on the internet, honestly, you are going for this operation and will have your own thoughts on it. please dont take as read what others post in reply, you dont even know them from adam, anyone can say what they want, knowing they will never be found out. please remember this.

and by the way dave, this isnt angled at you buddy, only making someone aware of how easy it can be to take on board what some wierdo has said, and probably not even been there.

just take care on this internet malarky.

cheers.
