Hitch head stabilisers

Hi the caravan I'm picking up the weekend has the Alko 2004 hitch head stabiliser on it, I seem to remember reading that these are good but some people found them to be not as good as the blade type, is this so? The reason for my asking is I have to change the ball on the car for the taller type and if the blade isn't needed then I can remove the bracket from the car

ISO Standard 11555 lays down standard performance criteria for integrated stabilisers like the Alko. Car manufacturers apply this standard in determining the durability of towbar attachments. Blade stabilisers are not covered by the standard, but their performance should not exceed that of an integrated stabilisers or else they could cause damage.

Hello Mike,I have used both,& have found no noticable difference in them.The ALKO is a lot less trouble to use though.

however you cannot use both together,(ALKO instructions for use)

if that is what you are thinking.If you are buying from a dealer get them to supply the ALKO ball as part of the deal.

If you are buying the ALKO type ball clean it well with brake cleaner/meths. Also clean the ALKO hitch pads as well

if you buy a new ball cleanall traces of paint from it befor using it

Mike just remember to keep the tow balls clean and free from any grease. This type of stabalisers run dry, Bazz.
