Hitch lock question

Hi, I have a hitch lock that I fit over the tow hitch when my caravan is on site or on my drive way. However sometimes on long journeys we stop at services etc for meals, toilets etc. It is a real hassle to have to disconnect from the car to put this lock on etc. Are there any locks available that can fit over the hitch while connected to the car, which would make it difficult to disconnect the van from the car?

William, the Alko hitch lock is designed to fit whilst hitched to a car weve got the 3004 hitchwith lock and it does fit.

Dont keep it locked whilst travelling though, as this could be a safty issue if the van needs to be detached from the car quickly

Don't rely on a hitch lock while parked at services, it only takes a minute to unbolt the tow ball from the car
Possibly, But as we have the van I personaly do'not pay extortionat

prices for their food & drink & never leave the van unattended, one of us stay with it if we use the loo's or wash rooms

Hi,

I have a Pageant S7, which comes with a 3004 stabiliser. When I bought the van, the dealer recommended a Bulldog hitch lock. It is essentially a metal box that fit's over the hitch handle, but underneath the stabiliser handle.

He reckoned that you could lock the van to the car, then engage the stabiliser. Since our tow ball is a removable type, which locks to the car, that would make it pretty secure in a car park (we also fit the wheel lock when parked at services etc).

My question is this:

When the Bulldog is fitted, I'm not sure the stabiliser handle is able to go fully 'down'. It looks fine, but is touching the lock, and i reckon could go another couple of mm down without the lock in place. I towed about 2 1/2 hours each way this easter weekend, and for a trial towed with the lock on the way there, and without it on the way back.

It may be my imagination, but it seemed smoother on the way home. Has anyone else got this combination / problem (if it is a problem and not my imagination!)??

Vince.

The Al-Ko hitchlock is designed to allow th estabiliser handle to fully engage the friction pads when fully in th edown position.

Any hitchlock which goes over the hitch handle will stop th estabiliser from being able to close properly , rendering the stabilising properties innefective.

It is definately not sensible to travel with any hitch lock in place.

The time it takes to put one on at a service area is seconds in the grand scheme of things, after all you are not in a race!!

I still fail to understand why , with all the publicity about possible theft from service areas, people seem to think that with a hitchlock their
