Hi Phil,

Like you, I'm picking up a van in March. After reading several reviews (none of which I can seem to find again) I've settled on a bulldog mini. Compared to some this kept out a concerted effort for close to five minutes and removing it forcefully made enough noise to wake the dead. Doesn't sound fantastic does it, but you'd be surprised at how badly some compare. At the end of the day it's a deterrent, it won't stop an acetylene torch. Anyway, as a newbie who's hitchlock is still sat in a box feel free to take it or leave it. Good luck!

Hi Philip

The fact that you have an Alko stabiliser on your van would rather suggest that you go for the Alko hitchlock as it's purpose made for it.

Yes, I thought that about the Alko lock but numerous reviews I read said that they were really difficult to fit, to the point that some people had returned them. No first hand experience however.

I have an Alko hitch lock on an Alko hitch and have no trouble at in fitting it. In fact it is very simple.

I have the "AKS 1300/2004/3004" hitch lock which is "Sold Secure" approved.

Jeff,

Have got two different AL-KO locks mixed up?

The AL-KO hitchlock for the coupling is easy to fit, and after some routine lubrication and cleaning, works well for years.

There has been a number of people complaining about the difficulty (for them) of fitting the new AL-KO wheel locks, which need to be lined up quite accurately - but are a top rated security device.

My Bulldog mini is excellent and Gold secure. Dead easy to fit and remove. Dad in law uses the Al-Ko one and I must say it is a bit tempremental.Once he pushed the lock in the wrong way round and it took some coaxing to getit out again!

Hi

I've got the Alko lock - the very first time I put it on it was a bit fiddly, I admit.

But now it's as easy as ...er....a very easy thing.

Have a look on ebay under Alko Caravan Hitchlocks. I have just sold one and there are plenty on the site, as we pick up a new Compass Rally at the end of the month and their hitch is a Winterhoff, the sale helped to pay for the new Winterhoff hitchlock, (second hand from ebay as well).
