Hi,

I have a Alko hitch 2500.

I have just bought a new set of pads and I was about to fit them when I noticed the Old ones had a Spacer washer behind each pad.

Question is Should I use these again with the new pads or were they there to take up wear.

I just tried to fit the new pads in OK then I place the hitch on my car and the presure was just felt on the second line marked on the hitch top.

I have noticed that the pressure needed to close down the handle is less than I have had before it was very difficult to close and release the stablizer with the old pads in fact it was as much as I could do to lift the handle to release the hitch before.

This is all very new to me as I have only just bought this Elddis Crusader, I have no experience on how much effort needed

to close and open the Stabilizer.

There are two lines marked on the hitch with the old pads slight pressure was felt on the first line with the new pads pressure is felt on the second line.

The old pads were very scored and rough hence I thought I would change them to start front square one.

Please can anyone help.

Hi Terry,

The pad pressure is set by the spacer washers - and the Al-KO web-site describes a procedure which helps you sets the pressure correctly.

Look for a document called "Friction Pad replacement and adjustment"

You may also need to add a dab of grease on the bushes that let the locating pins (on the back of the friction pads) slide in and out - use CopperSlip or some other brake system compatible grease.
