hitchlock for travelling

Heard lots of different stories about this. Is it safe to travel with hitchlock on. I say no as it means you cant release the caravan easily in an emergency but we have heard otherwise this weekend. I am sure this has been covered before but would like some replies please as I cant remember. Many thanks

I would be very wary about leaving a hitchlock in place while towing in case it may interfere with the overrun brake functioning properly if it snags on any moving part of the coupling etc.

Helen, no, it is not the safest thing to do to travel withthe hitchlock in place, in case you have an accident, then the van cannot be detached from the vehicle, however, if you stop for a break, at a motorway services or other place where you have to leave the van unattended, FIT the hitchlock, AND wheelclamp.

I know its a bit of a pain, but its better than coming back and finding no van on the car, also, some insurance policies insist on these percautions.
