On the site here there are several Hobby caravans, 3 of which are of the 8' wide type, heavily tinted black windows and looking very modern.

Not saying I can buy one (would like to if pennies allowed  ), but they certainly look great from the outside, I hope to look at the internals sometime, wishful thinking I know, but they make UK caravans look ordinary.

If I ever have a new caravan, it most probably will be made outside the UK, it's a pity that is my consideration as i believe that UK manufacturers could compete if they wished.

Never been a massive fan of the Hobby or Tabbert caravans. They do look good inside and the automotive style rear clusters and curved rear panels do give a sleeker look. They have a perception of quality, being German, but the layouts are unusual when compared to the UK built and focused alternatives and similar layouts seem heavier - I doubt we will see a Landhaus on the road anytime soon!

The tiny or no front window looks weird to me but does make sense from a towing perspective. Some of the front-bed layouts have what looks like a tinted wrap-around Airstream style window but this a decal as far as I can tell to disguise the lack of window. I like the triple front window and panoramic sunroof too much!

Of course not all of the hobby range has the small front window - there is no doubt that the quality is exceptional though this has a bearing on overall weight - with the correct tow vehicle I doubt that there is a better combination to be had

That is because it is not the front window, it is a bedroom window.
The seating area is at the rear.

I agree they look good from the outsi8de but having been in display models I am afraid the inside looks gaudy to me. The quality looks good but I can never understand the idea of a fixed bet at the front. I want to sit there and watch the world go by.
Given that they are the caravan of choice for travelers, who do live in them the interior must be robust though, but those large twin axle models do have a bad theft record and you need a Transit to tow them.
Their are a few of their smaller models which would suit us though but the dealers are very thin on the ground and they do not make anything aimed at us. It is take the continental models or go elsewhere with no real effort to sell here.
I gather they do not make examples available to the press to test either which should explain the lack of any reports on them.

Looks are decptive
Bailey tried the bedroom at the front year’s ago with a Pageant Vendee S6. Failed.
More importantly Hobby’s list of Optional Extras is vast. It includes many items we Brits expect as standard, eg a type of ATC, Alde water heater etc.
Probably ok for a seasonal. A monster to tour with perhaps

Around 2012 we were looking at a very nice Adria and were quite impressed by the fit and finish. But having the bed at the front was a definite no-no. I’ve yet to master the knack of 180 deg pitching other than with the mover. Although at times the van does tend to want to do that itself as I back up. I too like to look out at the world.

No they are not, they used to be but now they prefer UK makes like Bailey as they stand out less on site.

And so you can, just put the van on pitch hitch forward and you have an all round view from the seating area "

No you don't, I use a Kia and it is well within limits.
Just because they look bigger they are not as heavy as you would like to portray.

No different than any of the UK brand 8ft wide vans. except that they are much more stable on tow due to the longer A frame.

True, they tend not to carry a whole house full of conveniences as the European market actually like to get out and aboutand spend their time in the open air, actually socialising with their neighbours, not sat curtain twitching in isolation and who in their right mind wants to sleep in a kitchen???? or bathroom !!?
