I have a 1987 Hobby Prestige 535 and I am unable to use the electrics in my van, lights ok, but none of the sockets work or the fridge. A local shop tells me its the Battery Charger box thing in one of the cupboards anyway its call a Elektromatic LA150.......Sorry means nothing to me, anyway he tried a different make one in its place, and when switched on it blew the new one!! The guy reconds that it has to be replace with the original one for the socket, and fridge can work again.

Can anyone please help. I have limited van knowledge, but a good mechanical background.

I do not want to pay hundreds to so called specialists, if its something I can do on my own.

Anyone know where I can get spares??? old or new

Many Thanks To you all

Paul

Paul, with what you have described, it would appear that although you may have a good mechanical background, your electric skills are not the same.

The mere name of the original unit suggests that it is of German manufacture, therefore you woul dneed to get one through a Hobby dealer.

However, without being able to actually see the set up in your van,it is going to take some time to trace every wire and circuit to establish the exact cause of the problem.

Whilst paying , in your words "a so called specialist" , may cost a bit, how much is your life worth? or the lives of your family??

If you really have no electrical knowledge to deal with this , GET expert help

The fridge works off 230V mains electric or 12V on tow.

Neither of these should involve the battery charger.

It sounds as though there is a fault on the charger /wiring that is causing the whole 230 volt system to fail.

I would as has been said get an auto electrician / Hobby dealer to check it out.

Hi Paul,

Try calling Ambergate Caravans in Derbyshire. They are the main importer for Hobbys in the UK and are pretty helpful with their advice too.

01773 853900

Hope that helps & good luck.
