Received my renewal quote from the RBS £299.25, Phoned More Than for a quote yes Sir no problem £200.44.

Phoned RBS to cancel let's look at this Sir, you have been a loyal customer for x years. We can offer you the same level of cover as before for £199 how does that sound Sir ?? Sounds good says I, but why did you not offer that on the renewal?? Well Sir the system didn't note you have been a loyal customer with no claims over 10 years. Well I suggest you change your system because I just cancelled.

Well done Frank. So many people just pay the renewal premium without checking. Most insurers try it on. I don't think I have ever accepted a renewal quote without checking the competitors and with the internet it is so easy now. In almost every instance I have been able to get improved cover and a reduced premium.

I look at it this way.....The savings on the various insurance policies we have more than pays for my annual broadband connection and my telephone line/calls.

It's no good having either principles or loyalty when dealing with insurance companies - they have neither.

The most difficult thing is to find a company that will insure you if you are away for more than a limited period (as many retired caravanners are). Usually the cover drops to next to nothing.

Both the clubs offer satisfacory cover, but won't quote for a house as old as mine!

For me it has been standard practise for some years to ring round other insurers whenever a renewal quote comes through for car, house etc.

The point has been done to death on TV consumer programs, in the press and on a certain money saving website .......... NEVER EVER accept a quote of your current insurer ....... ALWAYS check with other companies first as you will often get a better deal BUT ensure you check "like-for-like".

I forgot to add ........... I had a quote from one of the caravanning clubs and it was TWICE the cost of the one I have gone with for almost identical cover ...... now that is what I call a rip off.

Oh ..... and yes the one I have gone with is reputable and has been in insurance for a long time.

Just shows that the big ones are not always the best lol.
