Hi Gareth, we had a shogun sport 2.5td which is more or less the same Vehicle, on a trip to South of France the best i could get towing a Swift Challenger 540 which weighed in at 1500k was a imo a poor 15/16 to the gallon, these figures was done on tank to tank. Needless to say i didn't keep it long, i now have a BMW X3 2.0td which averages 30mpg towing. But don't let this put you off L200 is a great tug, i just couldn't warrant the low mpg.

ahhhh i think ive made a mistake then is there any way i could get more mpg out of it e.g fuel savers or fork out for lpg as the l200 is a good tug mpg lets it down and im also getting a truck top back fitted will this increase the mpg much or will i even notice the diffrence many thanks

Hi Gareth

What's your annual mileage? If it's not too high then your extra fuel burn may not be as bad you think.

Cheers

Gareth,

im really really shocked. if you had said you had got a shogun or a sorento i could understand because they tow more but an L200 its a lovely cab but it drinks more fuel and the kerb weight is only 1770kg compared to my santa fe of 1893kg.

so why did you change it?.

LOL OK ALAN

jo anne the kerb weight is a bit lower yes but the l200 pull 2700 kg where the santa fe is only 2200 kg and the l200 has a higher nose weight of 115 compared to the 80 of the sf and the all inportant low range.

but if its no good on mpg it will go lol

many thanks

gareth, you can tell me to keep my nose out but im just a bit concerned about your towing weights. if i went by my max tow weight and towed 2200 i would be towing at well over 100% so people nowdays go by the kerbweight.

im concerned you have made a boo boo. its more expensive to run, more on the 85%, are the rear seats as conphy as the santa fe that they can be tilted or are they flat backed they they dont move?.

i hate to say it but all i think you have gained is the max tow ball weight. I think you will be more on the percent than you was with the santa fe.

Gareth, just been on both sites.

The L200 urban is 26.4 mpg, extra urban is 38.2 mpg, combined is 32.8.

The santa fe is urban 30.1 mpg, the extra urban is 47.1 mpg, the combined is 38.7.

obviously they are usually slightly less than whats been quoted.

did you have the 5 seater gsi santa fe?.

Gareth, i hope you dont mind ive just done working out.

mtplm of van is 1759 divided by 1770 kerb of L200 then x 100 means you will be towing at 99.3%.

mtplm of van is 1759 (depending on model) divided by 1893 kerb of L200 then x 100 means you were towing at 92.9.

if you have a motor mover aswell then its more. So you would be over the 100% if you had a motor mover and used the L200.

someone correct me if i have done it wrong.

thanks

hi jo-anne

yes my van does have a motor mover on it the back dont move they are fixed so it seems ive made the wrong chioce i let my hear rule my head as the l200 looks chunky and aggresive.

yes the sf was a 5 seat gsi.

your right about towing over 100% but it looks so good on the back of the l200 and being wishbone suspension it dosent seem to dropp down at the back like the sf did

many thanks

Jo-anne, a motor mover does not affect the weight ratio because the weight ratio is based on the MTPLM and that includes everything, including a motor mover, if fitted.

Secondly, one does not lose insurance coverage if the weight ratio exceeds 100% so long as it's still within the manufacturer's towload limit.

I knew the 85% was just a guide but if it was me then i wouldnt be happy towing at 99%. I know the caravan club are sometimes funny about insuring you if you are to close to the 100% or did i get that wrong aswell, lol. As you said you are a hgv driver so no problems.

If you are totally happy with it then you wont need to get your money back. Most contracts have a cooling off period so check it out if thats what you really want.

good luck

How can CC insurance be "funny" about towing ratio? They ask for full details of the caravan, obviously, but never ask about the towing vehicle.

Hi Guys

"CC can be funny...."

There's nothing in the Caravan Club Insurance contract to this effect.

Jo-anne , Not quite sure what you mean here??

The fact here is that Gareth , for reasons best known to him chose a vehicle that on paper is sub standard weight wise to what he had and by all accounts from other posters is a fuel guzzler.

So , did Gareth drop a bo
