Hello Norman,
I will have to make some assumptions about your water system, as you do not give details of makes and models.
In most caravans manufactured since 1985, the supplied hot water system was either a Carver Cascade, or a Truma Boiler. Although they were totally different designs, functionaly they were very similar. They are both:
*Storage water heaters,(Approx. 70C max temp Thermostatically controlled))
*Typically hold 9 litres (2 Gallons)
*You need to push cold water in, to get hot water out
*later models had an option to heat the water using a mains element
*Takes about 30 minutes on gas to heat a full tank from cold. (20min if used with both gas an mains heating)
My third point really answers your capacity question, if your cold water runs out you cannot push any cold water in to get hot out. This process always ensures your hot tank is full, and will not run dry (subject to following the draining and recommisioning instructions over winter and in storage
The other factor you must bear in mind, is that the water may achieve 70C, whichis too hot for showering, so normally you would mix it with cold for comfort. This extends the useable amount of hot water and it is considered just possible to have two showers consecutively provided you are economic with your water.
Hope this helps
