hi mikey, in a word yes, it seems from your post that you are using gas to heat the water, there is a thermocouple in the heater that shuts off the main burner when the water is at running temperature, and the pilot light stays lit (excatly the same as a domestic boiler) question are you using EHU's on site because if you are there is a electric element in the heater that will keep the water at a constant temperature ,
when I arrive on site after setting up and filling the water system I start the heater on gas then after 10/15mins when the water is hot switch on the electric and turn of the gas, to keep the water at the same temp for the rest of our stay, it will do no harm leaving the heater on just using gas if there is no EHU, "ps, dont forget to remove the outside cowl of the heater"
more info on the correct use of the cascade can be found in the pages of this website under ADVICE on the main forum page then scroll down till you see "" how to use the truma ultrastore water heater"" the principal and controls are similar but not exactly the same however ther should some good pointers there for you,

hope this helps

Hello Mikey,

Do you have a copy of the users manual? if not I suggest you check out

http://www.arcsystems.biz/
Gary the owner often participates on this forum.

On the face of it you are doing nothing wrong, but your report lacks some details, so its is possible you may not have fully filled the heater before turning it on at some point, and that may well have damaged the heater.

I suggest you read the instruction manual, check youv'e done everything correctly, and try again. If it still is not working for you, then as I have said I think you may possibly have damaged it in some way. Depending on what has been damaged it may be repairable, but please be aware that this product has not beem manufactured for over ten years now, and spares are in limited supply.

Gary at Arc systems will be best placed to tell you what is or isn't available.

Thanks John, been pondering this and my belief is the control switch is at fault, 1993 is the clue, late 91 to early 93 burner modules damage the switch and cause it to work perhaps once or twice before finally failing altogether.
Certainly the first thing to test and eliminate before going further, contact me direct and I'll expalin a simple test you can do yourself, phone numbers on my website, www.arcsystems.biz

Colin, Cascade's don't have 'winter covers' so unlike Truma's water heater, nothing to remove!
