Hi all, can someone explain,in simple speak, how a veranda pole would fit on an awning frame that has 5 poles across the front but 2 windows?I thought that the veranda pole was designed to support the rolled down windows and on a 3 pole set up that is easy, just pole to pole and fold window over.BUT on our size 17 awning I cant see how it would work.DUHHH!!

So do two of the poles come down through the centre of the windows.

I've never seen an awning with five poles on the front usually five in the roof and three in the front

B4Bill,yes the windows have a plain panel in the middle of each one for the poles so from outside it looks like 4 windows and we have 5 poles across the roof. It is a Dorema Montana Lux awning with fibre frame.Very new too!!Only used it once so far and it was easier to erect than it sounds!! Especially for me, cos I was only able to "stand and watch"!!!!!!

If you have a pole coming down, I presume from your description half way or so between zips, then a veranda pole would be as useful as an ashtray on a motorbike.

Perhaps its time to ask Dorema? I suppose you could use two short veranda poles per zipped section.

Surely if you have five vertical poles you can start by just putting the two corner ones in place with one pole in the middle. This would then allow you to install your veranda poles and enable you to roll down your two fron panels. You should then be able to fit the two remaining vertical poles in place if you felt that the awning frame still needed the extra support. Eeven with all five poles in place it should still be possible to re-zip the panels to the top - possibly with a bit of help !

Our awning is not small (18ft van) and is supported by an IXL frame with only three poles without any problem.

Hope this helps

We can also use the veranda poles on the awning side, so is that an option for your Dorema? [ours though is an Isabella].

Also do you need to have the two "extra" vertical poles in when the weather is nice enough to use the veranda poles? Or can you simply set them in a bit at the bottom so they are clear?

Panel dropped between inset pole and veranda pole.

[ This is what I do with our Magnum, that posses similar issues if using the veranda pole on the front panel.]

Thank you all for the useful and very practical suggestions. Dorema have only got an alloy veranda pole and I am concerned it will damage our fibre poles,GRRRR???

we have got the alloy verandah poles from our old dorema and use a bit of tape round the fibregalss. You can buy shaped rubber bits from Isabella for their metal poles is you are concerned. We had the 5 poles with our dorema, the intermdiate two were just clamped on and I just temporarily removed the upright. If the weather is bad, your not going to leave the panel open anyway.Best wishes

Thursdays Child,

I have a quest awning size 17 which also has 5 front poles and a veranda pole. As I understand it, the 2 extra poles are only fitted if it's really windy, belts and braces so too speak. I either use the verandah pole or all 5 poles although as has been mentioned it is possible to use it all but it does mean the one front pole has to be angled in and I think looks untidy.
