Have been trying now for the last 58 minutes to log into the Caravan Club website to book a site or two for next year.

No luck as of yet getting access and must have clicked the 'book' button a thousand times so far.

Hope I get in before I get RSI!

The site gave me access after 59 minutes but logged me off and I had to re-enter the site before it would accept my 1 booking....

It took me about half an hour to book 4 sites. Just keep clicking the BOOK button about every 2 seconds. At last I can start dreaming and planning. Best wishes, Butler

I managed to get my bookings completed by 11.20. I did the same as Butler, constantly clicking the Book button, and eventually got next years bookings completed.

As stated in another thread. 30 minutes 5 bookings. Simples..

Hello Andrew, nice to see you, hope you and Jane are well xx

I never got involved in the booking scrum at this time of year, I preferred to wait and do it another time. But since we rarely went away in peak times we never had a problem with booking anything anyway.

Hi Sue, Yes we're fine. Went and bought another ' van cause we couldnt stand being away from it.
This is the first time I used the day 1 booking system, cause we needed to be sure of getting our dates for our journey south to Dover in June, and then the homeward legs. Didnt have a problem getting them, so well pleased.

Hope you and Steve are well Sue.

Andrew and Jane.

Booked mine - four weeks at four sites. All C&CC sites booked plus a couple of privates and CLs. Only one CL to go then it's all finished except if the boss decides to fill in the gaps. Her decision because it's her purse, I just pick the location

Improvement from last year although I left that until later and had no problems.

BTW hi TT

What a sad lot you are. There are plenty of sites and pitches unless its the block booking brigade who want to book every school holiday and then cancel half of them. I found it a vast improvement on past years. got what I wanted, if I had not well there are many sites and sod the CC with thier over priced pitches

This year got straight though around noon on to the web site, booked all sites we wanted, four in total. Far better than in previous years. About ten minutes no problems at all..

The Caravan Club appear to be addressing the problems of previous years when there have been widespread complaints on various caravan internet forums about the difficulty in booking and the unavailability of pitches. There was some improvement last year but in 2008 forum message boards were in meltdown with the number of angry comments about the CC booking system.
The Caravan Times carries reports from the Caravan Club which states that there have been a record number of bookings this time so well done to all concerned and congratulations to those who have been able to plan their touring itinerary for the coming year. The only thing that puzzles me as C&CC member is why there is a need for a 'starting date' for advanced bookings which seems to awaken the competitive spirit amongst CC members? I don't recall there ever being any problem with C&CC bookings whenever they are booked although of course the C&CC require deposits for advance bookings. I have to say that more often than not I use certified sites whenever possible. A quick telephone call half an hour before I set off usually does the trick for me, I always manage to get in somewhere near to where we want to visit.

what ever heppened to the sponteniety of just gouing away. Its ridiculous that unless i book ALL my weekends now for next year i simply can not get on to Chatsworth / Clumber or any other number of cc sites.
Chatsworth is handy for me , and with 2 young children i usually can not plan that far in advance.

Why does everyone feel the need to make these mass bookingssoo far in advance.Where is your spirit of adventure.

Leave some space for those of us that have work commitments that mean we have to take breaks at short notice.

What is it with Chatsworth??

I went for the first time last year. Yes, nice site but so are many others but whats more, Chatsworth isn't in the same league as Englethwaite Hall in Cumbria. OK, there's no shower block but the grounds are far nicer and so are the pitching areas and it's a lot cheaper. Now I've been to Chatsworth to see what all the ooooh hahhhh is about I will leave it for those who really think it's the best.

To answer you about the need to book so far in advance, and this is not critical of you but seeing it from my perspective, it is the need to book complete weeks before all the weekends have been booked. It's frustrating seeing pitches available Sunday to Thursday but the sites full at the weekend. Now I've retired I always book complete weeks, Sunday to Sunday, and go away up to 4 weeks at a time. I want to be able to have a continuous 4 weeks rather than coming home at weekends and having to make do with 5 days at a time because I can't get a complete week anywhere.

Anyway, I've now booked my complete weeks so the rest of ya can have a free for all with the weekends... heh! heh! heh!

Everyone paid a nice big fat depsit of course or even the full fees up front
smiley-wink.gif

Oh well at least the CC magazine is quite interesting and the ferry booking staff are very good and charming for our monthly membership fee.
A members club that excludes so many of us members as we're not in a position to block book months ahead, We just don't want to rough it on a CL a lot of the time and would have loved a couple of weeks straight through on. a club site, never ever been able to do it yet. We've paid up front site fees for continental summer pitches but the CC still allow the block booking fiasco with no deposit.
Sorry, but it makes me wild. If you can only access a small percentage of what the club is supposed to offer there should be a reduced fee.

Just logged on and booked first site in about two minutes. Subsequent five were just as easy, when completed one, back to holding screen and pressed browse a couple of times and I was in. Maybe I was just lucky, all this at about 11:30-12:00 Wednesday morning.Certainly an improvement on last years fiasco!!!

Why do you think you are "roughing it" by staying on a CL?
For those CL owners who take great pride and put in alot of effort into their sites, I can imagine would be somewhat miffed that somebody would be describing their CL as "roughing it" I don't know how many CL's you've actually stayed on, but IMO it's rather a sweeping statement!!

Put him on iggy Wendy. He's obviously never used a CL/CS.

One particular site I know of, near Cirencester, is a CC site in miniature, even using the same chemical toilet disposal facility. Across the road is a field to take your dog.
Om doesn't say why he cannot book complete weeks so I'm surmising that he works and his holidays are taken up with his travels abroad as he posted

We've stayed on some fantastic little CL's, LB - some much better than the clubsites - alot quieter for a start!
If OM wants a weekend on a clubsite, why not try one of the less popular ones - he shouldn't have much trouble getting a pitch!

Why oh why do people buy caravans with full bathroom facilities and never use them?
smiley-undecided.gif

Some of the most stunning scenic sites we have used are CLs or CCs without any toilet blocks, eg Grummore near Altnahara, CC Low Moor Whitby , a delightful CL near Instow North Devon and many more.
I see Bunree is pretty full again. I stayed there 5 years ago and can honestly say the toilet seats never got cold due to the high volume of people using the facilities.
smiley-laughing.gif

The Best of British Parks have some excellent locations too. Forget the CC moans, it's not all their fault and only relates to a few sites which no longer attract me. There are far better CC sites than Chatsworth or Rowntree Park within the CC organisation , eg Grin Low Buxton, plus of course the CLs.
