Hi, I'm trying to reduce the weight of our caravan where possible, one way would be to take just one 6kg gas bottle instead of two. Just wondered what peoples thoughts are or is it better safe than sorry and carry two. Please let me know, thanks.
I tend to carry two as the Senator is fitted with a gas chageover which automatically transfers to the other bottle when one is empty, takes away the hassle of running out of gas at an inconvenient time. Carrying two bottles does mean that you have to be cautious not to exceed the noseweight figure on the car or caravan.
I have always carried two based on the law of sod that says that you will run out of gas half way through cooking dinner and two minutes after the site shop shut fot the night.Obviously you will always run out when using the gas so with only one 'bottle' you are up the creek without the proverbial paddle. The counter to al of this is either invest in a gas low gauge or switch to the new BP bottles where you can see how much is left but then if it looks low you will end up getting rid of a bottle that is not actually empty. Here endeth the lesson Scrooge alias the Plotter.
For trips to Europe we carry a (hopefully full) standard Calor Gas butane bottle and a Camping Gaz 907 - then if we run out - we can swap to Camping Gaz - and if that runs out, well you can but that anywhere.
