Hi there

Could use some input on this.

I have purchased a new Bailey Ranger 460/4 2007 its first service is due in August. If i take caravan back to where I purchased the caravan from I will have to take the van there leave it then they let me know when I can collect the van. This does mean 250 miles of driving plus 2 days off work. + the bill.

I have found a mobile service specialist.

NCC Registration and is a Acops gas service engineer.

Should this cover the warranty issue on the van or shold I give Bailey a call to confirm.

Regards Steve

If he has N.C.C. accreditation he should be o.k. to do warranty/servicing. I did think they had to be C.O.R.G.I. registered though.

If I were going to ring anyone to check I'd ring the N.C.C. rather than Bailey, they might want to protect their dealers turnover.

Stephen,

Provided your mobile man has a letter from Bailey's stating that his qualification/certification is acceptable, then yes he can carry out the service without affecting your warranty, what he won't be able to do is any warranty rectification work, this must be carried out by the original selling dealer or any Bailey dealer who is authorised by Bailey's to carry out what is termed as "transient warranty repairs" that is to say warranty repairs on their (Bailey's) product not originally sold by them.

You can go to any Bailey Dealer, and get your van serviced , lists of all the dealers is on there web site. Agree partly with lord B but make sure that baileys reconize the person you wish to service your van , it would awfull if you invalidated your 6 year warranty .

I can only speak from experience. I have an Abbey and the engineer I use has serviced and carried out warranty work with the exception of the first year. Obviously if it is jobs like panel replacement, he cannot do those.

I've just checked his business card and he is C.O.R.G.I. registered. I would have thought if he was N.C.C. accredited he would be allowed to work on any caravan manufacturers vans if they were members of the council. Maybe Bailey don't allow it so I would check first.

I am having minor work under the Bailey warrenty and a service carried out by an approved local Bailey service centre. The firm I purchased the van from do not do their own servicing and therefore recommend three different service companies depending where you live for all service/warrenty work.

Greetings,

I bought my van from east yorkshire but have my van serviced by their former service manager who is in business in Cornwall.

He does have accreditation to do this from the manufacturer.

We were thinking of taking our Swift to Long Eaton Caravans in derbyshire for its first service. They are authorised by swift. Anyone used them? Any good?

Hello Stephen,

There is some general misunderstanding about the status of 'Warranty' and the 'Manufacturers Guarantee' They are different.

Your warranty rests with the seller and are part of your legal rights under the Sale of Goods acts. They are the organisation that warranted that the product you purchased was free from defect. Warranty does not actually call for the item to be serviced.

Clearly it is good sence to have your product serviced to maintain its performance.

The manufacture is under no legal obligation to you to offer any support after you purchase a product, but most do offer a manufacturers guarantee. Because it is not a legal requirement, there is no legal framework that defines what support they offer, who they offer it to, and what requirements must be met.

They are entitled to limit their liability and to place obligations on the customer to keep the gurantee valid. So if they specify a service interval, you must keep to it, they can also require the work to be performed by one of their own dealers - but most will accept service work carried out by an approved workshop.

For clarification first of all check your purchase documentation, and if you have any doubts contact the manufacturer.

Why did you buy a caravan from a dealer 125 miles away?

Why not buy close to home, deliver and collect on a saturday, and have the benefits of a local dealer?
