Well, this was an extraordinary approach to buying a caravan. What could possibly go wrong!

The essence of the story is buying a secondhand caravan unseen, from a non-specialist dealer in Ireland, bringing it back to Scotland on the ferry and once back at home finding that it wasn't the one they'd seen in photos. Plus a process full of warning signals.

That Formula was only intended to be temporary, devised in 1978 as a prelude to the 1979 referendums on devolution in Scotland and Wales - should have been replaced with a better thought out arrangement in the 1980s but sidelined by every government since.
