hi there

needs some help, i just bought an abbey somerset and the previous owner advertised it as 93/94 but I am suspicious of the age, i cant find any chasis plate and there is no chasis number etched on th windows, the van is like new inside and no damp etc, I paid £2700 for it, but i am starting to worry incase i paid too much, anyway can anyone help me place a real age on the van?

some things that may help to place the age:

double glazed windows all round

4 birth, (1 double, 2 bunks at rear)

no window etchings

sloped front with two locker doors to access front "boot"

on rear it says "abbey by cosalt"

has a fitted toilet, not the portapotty type

has long seats at front in a U shape configeration

thanks for any help

The Somerset varied in internal length and un-ladened weight over the years so this might help identify it's age. It would also appear that the fixed 'Cassette' toilet was first introduced in the Somerset for the 1991 season.

15ft internal goes from 91 and this year the van weighed 808kg.

Still 15ft in 92 but 909kg, 93, 889kg. In 94 it gained 4ins in length but dropped to 874kg in weight.

All information is from Glasses 'Guide' which by definition is not always accurate, if you want an exact answer ask Mark here,

We had a 1992 Abbey Stafford and it was CRIS registered and had the number etched on each window - this was done at manuacture. Think if the van was 1993/4 it should be registred by CRIS and have the numbers on the windows.

Are there any other dates anywhere eg on the charger etc? - think it will be a PMS system.

Hi. I bought a new Abbey GTS in October 1992 and after paying for it and taking delivery, the dealer mentioned that Abbey was closing. Shortly afterwards Abbey was taken over by the Swift Group. It was Cris registered. It certainly sounds like your van is pre 1992 Henry

Value wise a 94 model in very good condition is probably worth 3.3k, least way a dealer would be expecting this or a little more on the window.
