How tall is too tall for a caravan? what's the tallest you can be and still sleep comfortably/not hit your head on the roof? My husband claims he is too tall and i'm starting to think he might be right but a caravan is my heart's desire.

My advice: get a caravan that you like and make him sleep in the awning. Seriously, go to a show or large dealer with OH and try out the various layouts and beds. I'm sure that you'll find one that fits.

aha, i'd thought of that but seemed a bit unkind. but hey, feels validated now.

DH says i should have called this thread 'van or man'. At least he knows where he stands (or lies)

thanks for replying!

Hi Lucy and welcome to the forum. We are both tall too.

Have a look inside a Swift Charisma 230. It's a 2 berth with a roomy end washroom. The maximum inside headroom is 6ft 10" and the front double bed is 6ft 10" x 5ft 11". The MTPLM is 1300kg.

The Swift website is excellent and you can even select any measurements to be shown in metric or imperial

that's really helpful - thank you. 6'10 would give him a bit of wiggle room!

You can be 6 ft 10 ins. That is the maximum size bed you can get. I'm 6-3 and fir in a fixed bed as long as I sleep where the gap is. The real test is in the shower. Side bathrooms in narrow vans are useless. the test is can you lick the soap up from the floor whilst in the sower. Suggest you look at a four berth with side dinette and end bathroom. The kids have the side bunks, you and tall guy have front dinette. Separate shower is OK. I find that vans that are 2.29 or 2.3 metres wise better for leg length at teh table.

Hi Lucy, My husband and I have the same issue as you. My husband is 6ft 3ins. The beds tend to be the biggest problem as most of the time you are in the caravan you are sitting down. We have to sleep in separate beds as James has to sleep diagonally across it! We are looking to change but as our tow vehicle restricts us we have just bought a Land Rover so we have a better choice of van. Head height in most vans are fine until you meet with a light fitting, also showers can be a nightmare too, not the height but the width, my other half can't bring his arms up to wash his hair as the cubicles are not wide enough. I realise am being picky but if you are going to spend a lot of money on one you need it to be right. Lucy your best bet is to go and view lots of vans, get the beds out, try the shower, ask yourself questions like is there enough room to sit down on the loo when you are that tall, its amazing how many don't have the space! Good luck I am sure you will find something. As for the kids, if you feel they are old enough, put them in the awning, I loved it when I was young sleeping in the awning. Good luck.

Hi Lucy, I know its not a compition but I am 6,11, and get on fine, I have a Luner Delta I have never botherd to measure the front bed size but the key to me is that there is no cabinat / table at the front, the bed when made up make a large double and my feet stick out a little in to the walk way,as for the shower I have never tried it as I always use the camp site one, as for head height you spend most of your time sat douwn so to me its not that important, I am sure your husband will accect that most things in this world was not made for people over 6 feet, and there for make the best of a bad world.
