How to Charge Battery on Bailey Senator

Hi all,

Sorry for sounding thick, but we have never had to use our battery at anytime.

Thing is, how do you charge your battery before you hit the road and do you need to have any switches in some order.

Thanks

Simon

Hi Simon

The grey 12s plug on your car will charge your leisure battery when you are towing.

You will need to set the switch inside your caravan to 'car', Bailey owners will know more about the switches.

If your leisure battery is discharged remove it from the caravan and connect it to a battery charger before setting off, a deep cycle charger is best if you have access to one ( borrow a mates C-TEK if you don't have one)

Forgive me for asking but why does your battery need charging?

the charge doesnt last long, so think may need full charge or new battery.

Mine does'nt have car switch just on/off master?

does the caravan not have an onboard charger which then charges battery if you hook up to site electrics?

Your battery is charged by the 12v power supply unit & is being charged all the time you are connected to the EHU.as long as the master switch is on there is nothing else to switch on

If you are saying that when not on EHU the battery does not last long that is a different matter. your battery benifits from being removed fron the van & charged with a "smart"charger a couple of times a year as the van charger will only bring the battery to 80% charge & this can be detrimental to the battery.

switch on the master switch with the EHU disconnected check the votage on the volt meter,if its below 12v then the battery needs charging. reconnect the EHU & the volts should rise to about 13.5 volts If it doesnot then your charger is not working

I'm slightly confused as to why you say that you have never had to use your battery at any time Simon.

Every time that you use the taps for water or most of the internal or the awning lighting on your caravan you are using your battery.

If you are going to stay on a pitch without e.h.u. your battery will benefit from a deep cycle charge but if you are hooking up to the mains the caravan battery charger should automatically recharge your battery.
