Hi.
We are off soon on our first break of the season.
Up until now,we have only used a Sunncamp Ultima porch awning(very easy to erect),which we decided to sell and have purchased a full awning for our Sancerre.
Does anyone know of a site where it shows good instructions(maybe a video too)on how to erect a full awning?.
Our main concern is the best place to start once the awning has been threaded through the awning rail(which order to put the poles etc..)
Ive already numbered all the poles which are the lightweight fibreglass type, and have erected the poles in the garden whilst leaning it up against the shed(very easy to do im sure without the weight of the canvass involved).
So basically,i would like some help on the order and best way to begin with the poles once the awning has been threaded.
Many thanks.

Hi Adrian.
We have a full awning for our Olympus, and we start from the middle and work out to the sides. Will need two of you to erect and take off the windows which will make it lighter and easier to handle. Unzip these before you feed it through the awning channel.
Makes life a lot better and stops some of the swear words lol.

Hope this has been of use.

Thank you Chris and Dougie.
Thats exactly what i was looking for.
Seems like its best to start from the middle and work outwards and a good idea to remove the zip out sections first.
Thanks once again.

Hello Adrian,
I read a tip some months ago about an easy method of erecting the frame poles.: After the canvas has been threaded onto the van, position the front centre pole and loop two guys to the top projection, then raise the pole roughly to required height. secure the guys with pegs and you will find that there is no need for a second person to hold that pole vertical. Repeat with end poles using two guys on each. At least this method gets you started without the (IMHO) hassle of erecting and holding the poles steady. My OH and I who are both vertically challenged and the wrong side of 70 find this is a fairly simple method. In fact the original post on the forum has proved to be the single most useful item in all the time that I have been a subscriber !

Happy caravanning !

Firstly make sure the awning rail is thoroughly clean and then lubricated with a generous dose of silicon spray.'
The poles kind of grow on you after a few erections (sic).
In the early days I used to spend hours putting different coloured tape on each pole and marking it on the pole diagram. Now familiarity breeds a big smile . I know where they go with ease. The secret is laying them out on the ground roughly where they will go.
It's the usual thing , practice.

My experience is that full awinings are easier to put up than porches. The end frameworks should be the same, and overall there will be less pieces. I used to take out all panels which will unzip - sides and front. Thread up front into the rail and put up centre front pole and rafter. secure with guyline and peg well secured to front. Then start with the upwind side frame and again peg out with guyline. Repeat with downwind side. Get the whole top pretty well into position and then zip in front and sides - don't get things tight at this stage. Theyen work round progressively a bit like tightenen wheel nuts - go round the lot several times before final pegging out. Sounds a tedious process but after a bit of practice you get into a routine.
