Hi guys, back for some more advice :) I saw in this months Practical Caravan an article about doing up an older caravan, and it looked like it was painted on the outside and looked great.! Is this fairly easy to do. I'd love for my little Piper to look like new but what sort of paint would i use? Can I just paint it on? I assume I'd have to sand pip right back first and remove the awning rail thing :) what grade and type of sandpaper is best. Thanks for any advice clearly I'm new to this but want to do a good job! :)

For the best results you would need to use car paint and have it sprayed, but that involves removing everything you don't want painting and masking up where needed.
Hand painting will always look "Hand Painted"

First flat it off with 320 grade wet & dry paper. there is a paint avalible called "repaint" try ebay for it.
this is designed for brush painting. but you will get far better results with a 4" roller.

Hi host25. I hope you had better luck than I, trying to find "Repaint" I don't think its made any longer? Old "Valspar" was a good hand paint as well. You can, imo, handpaint your caravan if you want to. Try seeking out a "Tecaloid" coach paint supplier close to you. Tell them what you want to do and I think they'll give you good advice. Try good old "Google" too, sure you'll find some tips on there. Buses, Trains and Commercial vehicles all were handpainted. A good flatting back, repair any dings, mask carefully, warm paint thinned just a little, best brushes, worn preferably and on a dry warm day and finish off brush strokes off into the new paint is a good start. Again, imo, with an older caravan, you don't have to spend thousands to cheer it up. Hope this helps. Terry.

Host 25 you have been given good advice above if you go down the brush pain route then use a mohair brush, less likely to see brush marks but Damian is right it will always look hand painted. Our Coaches were all brush painted but the paint we used is no longer available. I am talking many years ago .

Thanks for all the good advice. I will have to investigate the cost of getting it sprayed ! If not I will try the coach paint idea I have an idea who to call on that front so thank you for all your help :) x
