Good evening all.

I am looking at changing car to a new tow car. Don't really want to go down the 4x4 route. I have narrowed my choices down to the following. Any advice on either would be appreciated.

Hyundai i40 estate 1.7 bluetec
Insignia tourer 2.0 elite

Both diesel. Going for new (delivery mileage car) so a significant saving on both over new.

Both offer suitable towing weight for our new van, a Bailey Pursuit 530/4 MTPLW 1375kg.

What would you choose?

Thanks in advance

I don't know about Hyundai but I have a Insignia hatch, 2.0 L, 170PS, manual, diesel. Just towed from South Wales to Norwich and back with a van 1250 kg MTPLM. Used M4 / M25, etc going up and A14, M42, M5 coming back. Stayed in 6th gear going up the hill to the Bath turnoff on M4 where they've added a crawler lane for slow vehicles. My 130PS Astra would have been down to 5th or even 4th gear. According to the OH, when she filled the tank up today, the computer said we averaged 39 mpg coming back. :) The Astra only did high 20s mpg.

My Insignia is also £zero VED for the 1st year and £30 per year thereafter. I wouldn't have thought the tourer would be much different to the above figures.

Thanks Woodlands, good to know the fuel consumption is good when towing. I do really like the insignia especially in elite spec. Pity the Astra isn't suitable I would have gone for the estate version if the weights were suitable.

Lovo, I had the Hyundai i40 as a courtesy car for a day, and although not towing I would prefer the Insignia, for the build quality. I found the Hyundai a bit "Thin" , But I love my Santa Fe.
Hutch.
