PC Mags towcar awards this month did not rate it very highly - see it for yourself, only 2 out of 5 stars for towing and "disapointing" in the lane change test.

Mind you they slagged the Shogun at only 3 stars because it has a gruff engine. I tow with a petrol version and consider it superb and at least as good as a V8 Cherokee with 5 stars, so maybe the testers are shall we say, "subjective"

I got a CDX7 in January. just returned from France yesterday and no problems towing at all. I am extrememly pleased with it both solo and towing. Fuel consumption is far better than my old Frontera. 68/70 is no problem on French autoroutes. Fifth is quite high geared so 4th better for some of the long uphill drags. I think it is a much better car than the Kia Sorento.

Reliability - don't know. I have had no problems and the 5 year unlimited mileage warranty speaks volumes. Resale - ask me in two years!! I suspect it will be a lot better than the old model tho.

Hope this helps

Hi David,

I have ordered the new Santa Fe CDX 2.2 diesel 5st for Sept. I was wondering as to what towbar and electrics you have fitted. There seems to be a shortage of supplies of towbars avaialable at present, with some being developed.Did you fit the bar yourself and how easy was it?

Thanks,Mike

Thanks David for the reply ref towbar. It looks the Witter Flanged unit is the one I will go for, as most of the others are under development.I realise that the twin silencers have to come off and the twin heat shields need to be cut. I also undertand the bumper does not need to come off or have a cut made in it. What electrical kit did you fit? Was it a manufacturer plug in kit for 12N & 12S or did you fit a 13 pin socket? How easy is it to fit the wiring? Do you need a download from Hyundai to tell the engine ECU about the wiring Kit?

Many thanks, Mike

I have just completed 12000 miles in a Santa Fe 2.2TD. Ignore the experts, this is a great tow car and pulled comfortably my senator vermont on an extensive trip through France. The only problem on the motorways was in staying within the speed limit. I previously owned 4 Freelanders over 8 years- good enough cars, but the Santa Fe is a different class.
