Hi, i currently have a 2.8 v6 Galaxy Auto, but need to change due to 15mpg whilst towing.

Have spotted these 2 choices:

2001 Hyundai Trajet 2.0 GSi Petrol Manual...

2003 Vauxhall Zafira 2.2 Elegance Petrol Manual.

Will be towing 1994 Swift Conqueror 520 Lux single wheel.

Do you think they'll be upto the job ?

I know the towing limit is "Just" about correct on both , but do you thing i'll struggle on power. Both have about 140bhp, whilst my Galaxy had 175bhp.

Any thoughts would be appriciated.

Thanks

Hi Phil,

You would be better looking at diesels if you are towing, almost any diesel will give you another 10 mpg over your Galaxy mpg and have max torque at lower revs. Petrol engined vehicles will be thirsty as you have found out.

I would avoid the Zafira diesel though.

Happy motoring

Hi

I currently have a Hyundai Santa Fe 2Ltr diesel.I tow an Avondale Landranger 6400 1996.

The Santa Fe has no problem with this and in fact returns very good mileage per gallon, APPROX 25 TO 28 MPG.

When not towing I get approx 38 to 42 mpg.

Because of this I am very reluctant to upgrade to the New Hyundai Terracan, although a very good with a 2.9 Diesel, it is slightly less mpg when not towing, which is the way the car would be used most of the time.

I agree with Cliff "Avoid the Zafira diesel".

It may be a good idea to have a look at the Santa Fe, although it is only 115 bhp, it has a fantastic torque and copes very well down here in Devon & Cornwall (Full of Hills).

Happy Caravaning.
