Igniting the cooker burners

Hiya every-one, the self ignitor on my cooker seems to have given up the ghost. Is there a battery in the system that I may need to replace periodically at all please? The cooker is a country kitchens and the model is a 2020 caprice.

Well I think thats the right make, it's something like that anyway.

Hi Philip,

I assume that none of the rings grill or oven will ignite, in which case it does point to the ignition unit. It runs of the caravans 12v system, and is triggered by the push switch on the front panel.

Have you switched the 12v off?

If you have 12V at the cooker, then that points very strongly at the ignition unit.

Looking at the exploded parts diagram at

http://www.leisurespares.co.uk/files/caprice_2020_parts_list.pdf
Its not clear from the parts diagram if you can access the ignitor (Diagram ref 87)without breaking gas joints. If you need to break a gas joint or you have any doubt about the job - refer the job to a qualified gas fitter.+

Hi Philip
Another point to check is the glass cover micro switches. Normally mounted below the right hand glass lid hinge, unfortuantly it does envolve take most of the top burner assembly apart to access them. Becarefol when unscrewing the lid hinges as the securing plates have a habit of disappearing down the back of the cooker. Mine did, had the pull the oven out to find the buggers.
Hope this helps also.
Regards
Kev...

hi Philip,
have you ever had the self igniter working ??
the reason I ask is because our van has the "country lesuire caprice 2020" cooker fitted and there is NO self igniter fitted,
never has been, it could be a earlier model than yours of course but but theres no igniter button fitted on the front panel.

hiya colin, yes it was working the last time we went away with the caravan 2 weeks ago. Thats why I was wondering if there was a battery that I have to replace as we have never changed one in the 4 years that we have owned the caravan. I have re-connected the 12v and it still don't work. ho hum.
