Ile d'Oleron

Has anyone stayed at Le Suroit? Is it a suitable base to explore the island by cycle? Anybody know of alternative sites ideally using ACSI card

Hi Brian, Chris and i are going to IIe d'Oleron differant site though, in September, but i understand there are plenty of cycle tracks, i got some information from David Klyne's site Caravan Travels, there is a review of the island on there.

Hi thanks for that lead
We're off there next week so will see how we get on.
It doesn't seem to be that popular an area with the Brits. We were on Ile de Re last year and really enjoyed it.
Also planning to go to the Lot for a few weeks so hope the weather is good

……I have visited the Ile D’Oleron many times and it is a cyclist paradise much like the Ile de Re.
I have not stayed on a campsite on either island, as I prefer to stay on the mainland.
Unlike the Ile de Re, the bridge is toll free so exploring the mainland is not a problem although the bridge and approach roads do get busy at times.
Fort Boyard (of TV fame) is just off the island and is an interesting boat trip.
On the Mainland the following are worth a visit…..
The Zoo at La Palmyre
The old port of Brouage now a few kms from the coast.
Ile Madame by vehicle causeway at low tide
Ile D’Aix foot passenger ferry from Fouras.
Enjoy your trip
